La Jolla Shores 5K, Hobie Call, and The Mustache Man

As I mention when last I wrote, I ran the La Jolla Shores 5K.  I hadn't really been training for it so the 19:49 I ran was acceptable, even though I had hoped to run closer to 19:30.  I did win my age group and placed 10th over all, so I have that going for me ;)

After a day off today I will start my intense training leading up to the Tough Mudder.  In that vein here is some inspiration from Hobie Call and The Mustache Man

  1. Hey bro,
It's your bro! I rarely run (only when CF Mainsite WOD calls for it), but I decided to run in the Athens Twilight 5k (21:38) and 50k Gambler Bike Ride (around 2 hours).
For Mudder Training, I won't change much other than add some longer trail runs over the last 4-6 weeks leading up to the TM. I recommend a focus on the trails, occasionally adding in intermittent sprints. While running, pick up a log and run/walk with it. Lots of pull-ups, toes-to-bar or knees to elbows, and squats (air squats if you don't want to get under weight). If you can find a rope to climb, add that as well. I wouldn't focus on low crawls, but you will be on your belly in the mud/ice. Any swimming we encounter will be more of a suck-fest due to temperature of the water. Find a good shoe/sock combo that keeps mud/dirt/sand/rocks out... your feet will be wet.
